Sam and Kyle’s Adventure Engagement Session in Portland

I view couple sessions as an opportunity to have fun and make a memorable experience for my clients. When planning the day I encourage my couples to think about what makes them who they are! I like to ask questions like “What are a few locations you love to visit the most? What are some hobbies you share?” This help us narrow down the picture-perfect setting for their photos. I stepped foot into Sam and Kyle’s home and immediately knew we had selected the perfect spots for their engagement session in Portland! We spent an entire day together and had an absolute blast. Seriously, I think this is the most fun I’ve had during a shoot in a while. The energy was so high, it was contagious! Sam and Kyle radiate love and happiness and they sure do know how to have a good time.

We started the session in their home where they cozied up and listened to some of their favorite records. I snapped shots of them dancing around the living room and just being the cuuteesst! Their favorite records were laid out on the floor and created a super cool backdrop, they even brought their gorgeous kitten out for a snuggles! After spending some time at home we ventured out for coffee. Sam and Kyle introduced me to Stumptown Coffee—their favorite spot—so of course we had to go!

In addition to some delicious coffee, we snapped tons of adorable shots then headed to their go-to record store, Music Millennium. Walking the aisles and sorting through the stacks of records, Sam and Kyle were totally in their element. We even found a few records with iconic cover art to incorporate into a few shots as well!

The third location we visited was a bookstore, and Sam and Kyle were naturals. The bookstore provided a unique, cozy environment and felt super homey. Once we were done exploring their favorite spots it was time to adventure out into the forest. Portland, Oregon has some of the most breathtaking scenic locations, and Sam and Kyle wanted to incorporate the natural beauty of their city into their photos. Their outfits were perfect for the setting—cozy PNW style! But, we knew we had to end the night downtown at sunset. So, we found a roof deck and partied! Seriously, we had so much fun letting loose on that parking garage. As the sun was setting, we ran around like kids. Playing tag, spinning in circles, and celebrating a fun day of adventures. This was the perfect end to a PERFECT day.

Sam and Kyle’s engagement session in Portland could not have been done without Brian who shot Super8 while I snapped the photos. This high-energy day was a blast and I am sooo glad we were all up for the challenge! Everything felt incredibly adventurous and nostalgic. Brian and I had discussed our goal for this session and agreed that we wanted to capture what a Saturday date would really look like for Sam and Kyle! I think we nailed it. Be sure to check out the amazing Super8 film!

Couples like Sam and Kyle remind me of why I love my job so much. Not only do I get to capture love stories all the time but I get to meet incredible people! Listening to their stories, experiencing their favorite locations, and understanding what brought them to fall in love is the best “job” I could ever ask for.
