Shelby + Seth’s Adventurous Mt. Hood Elopement

Shelby and Seth march to the beat of their own drum and wanted their Mt. Hood elopement to be just as unique and adventurous as they are!

Nothing traditional or cookie cutter for them and I can’t get enough of it – their day was truly tailor-made just for the two of them. I loved that I got to work with Shelby and Seth so closely throughout every part of the process. From brainstorming locations and ideas to eventually changing plans, they went from a one day wedding to a two part wedding. Their Mt. Hood elopement included a summer ceremony with family and friends, and an adventurous vow exchange for just the two of them the following day.

For their private vow exchange we did a sunrise hike from Timberline Lodge to Zig Zag Canyon, which in the summer meant that we met at 2:30am for a hike lit by a full moon and sky full of stars! It was well worth the early wake up time as we were practically alone on the trail and greeted by the sun as we arrived to the canyon. As the stars faded and the sun lit up the sky, they changed into their wedding clothes. Shelby did her makeup in a compact mirror while the sun rose in the distance. The sun broke over the mountain peak while they were sharing their vows as I stayed off in the distance to give them a truly private moment.

We took our time exploring the peak, searching for wildflowers and admiring the alpine trees. On the way back down we shared a cheeseboard with a champagne toast as the occasional hiker passed by and offered their congratulations and cheers! One of my favorite parts about sunrise is that you can really take your time once you’re done and leisurely head back as opposed to hiking back in the dark. Shelby and Seth shifted their plans and the result was something truly magical and truly them.
