Caroline and Matt’s Timeless Early Fall Wedding at Irving Street Studio

Some weddings feel effortlessly cool from beginning to end, and Caroline and Matt's September wedding at Irving Street Studio was exactly that.

Set inside Portland's historic Ecotrust Building, their celebration embraced everything that makes Irving Street Studio special: exposed brick walls, soaring industrial windows, warm wood tones, and a layout that allows guests to move seamlessly between intimate indoor spaces and sweeping rooftop views of downtown Portland.

On one of those perfect early fall Oregon days—bright sunshine, warm temperatures, and just enough crispness in the air to hint at the season ahead—Caroline and Matt gathered their favorite people for a wedding that felt both timeless and deeply personal.

Classic Style with Colorful Details

Caroline's look was the definition of understated elegance. Her sleek sleeveless silk gown paired beautifully with Matt's classic black tuxedo, creating a look that felt sophisticated, modern, and completely timeless.

While the couple kept their own style refined and minimal, their wedding party brought a joyful burst of color to the day. Bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses in soft shades of pink, blue, green, and yellow, creating a palette that felt playful without distracting from the overall aesthetic.

One of the sweetest moments came during the ceremony when Caroline's cousins stepped into the role of adult flower girls. Their enthusiasm had everyone smiling and added a lighthearted touch that perfectly reflected the couple's personalities.

A Rooftop Cocktail Hour Above Downtown Portland

After the ceremony, guests made their way to the rooftop for cocktail hour, where they were greeted with panoramic views of downtown Portland bathed in September sunshine.

The contrast between the industrial interiors of Irving Street Studio and the open-air rooftop created a beautiful rhythm throughout the day. Guests lingered with drinks in hand, soaking up the views and enjoying one of the last truly summer-like evenings of the year.

The Tattoo Artist Everyone Couldn’t Resist

While every wedding has memorable details, Caroline and Matt included one that guests will likely be talking about for years.

During the reception, a tattoo artist was set up onsite for anyone brave enough to leave with a permanent souvenir from the celebration.

What started as a fun idea quickly became one of the highlights of the evening. Caroline and Matt each got tattoos after the ceremony, and before long guests were lining up as well. Watching Caroline's dad and Matt's mom join in on the fun made the experience even more memorable and perfectly captured the relaxed, welcoming energy of the day.

Film Photography and Late-Night Flash Portraits

As the evening unfolded and the dance floor filled up, we snuck Caroline and Matt away for a few minutes of late-night portraits.

Using direct flash and film photography, we created a series of images that felt equal parts editorial and nostalgic—the kind of photographs that look like they could have been pulled from an old magazine while still feeling completely true to the couple.

The combination of flash, film grain, and the warm glow of the city after dark was the perfect ending to a wedding that balanced classic style with unexpected personality at every turn.
