Savannah and Liz’s Dreamy Summer Engagement Session on the Oregon Coast

Savannah and Liz’s engagement session on the Oregon Coast earlier this summer was nothing short of magical. Having recently moved from Tennessee, these two brides are embracing the Pacific Northwest and creating a new life together in Oregon. This session was a celebration of their love and their newfound home, featuring the stunning landscapes that make the Oregon coast so unique.

We began the session at the north end of Cannon Beach, where the tall dunes and expansive shoreline provided a perfect backdrop. Savannah and Liz were drawn to the textures of the coast—the tall, soft sea grass that sways gently in the ocean breeze, and the warm-toned rocks that characterize this stretch of coastline. Their desire to highlight these natural elements aligned perfectly with my photography style, which is film-inspired, documentary-style with an editorial touch.

As a photographer, I love blending analog and digital mediums to tell a story. For Savannah and Liz’s session, I captured their moments on a mix of 120mm film, 35mm film, Polaroids, and digital formats. Each medium brings its own character and emotion to the images. The rich, timeless feel of the film, combined with the instant nostalgia of Polaroids and the crisp detail of digital, created a beautiful visual narrative of their love story.

We spent time exploring the north end of Cannon Beach, capturing candid moments as they walked hand in hand along the shoreline, laughed together in the sea grass, and embraced against the backdrop of the ocean. They brought so many little things to make their session feel more personal, from a picnic basket and picnic blanket, to playing cards, their favorite books, and a cocktail to share in the cutest glasses. The connection between them was palpable, and I focused on documenting their genuine emotions and interactions in a way that felt natural and unposed.

As the day went on, we made our way to Hug Point for the sunset. The warm, golden light cast a beautiful glow over the landscape, making the rocks appear even more vibrant. Hug Point’s unique textures—its rugged cliffs, tide pools, and cascading waterfall—provided a perfect setting for more intimate and editorial-style portraits. Savannah and Liz’s outfits, carefully chosen to complement the coastal tones, stood out beautifully against the natural backdrop.

Some of my favorite film frames from their session:

The sunset at Hug Point was the perfect ending to the day. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting soft pink and orange hues across the sky, I captured the final moments of their session. Savannah and Liz stood together, wrapped in each other’s arms, watching the waves roll in. The images from this moment, captured on both film and digital, perfectly encapsulate the dreamy, romantic feel of the day.

This session was a wonderful reflection of Savannah and Liz’s journey—from their relationships’s roots in Tennessee to their new life in Oregon. It was a privilege to document their love in such a breathtaking location, blending analog and digital photography to create a timeless collection of images they will cherish forever. I’m so excited for their wedding next year!
