Lisa and Minh’s Sunrise Cherry Blossom Picnic Engagement Session

Lisa and Minh knew exactly what they wanted to do for their engagement session, and I was so excited to bring their vision to life! We scheduled their session originally for mid April in anticipation of the cherry blossoms, but the blossoms came early this year so we pivoted to the last weekend in March. When it comes to capturing a specific scene in nature, whether it’s blossoms, a mountain view, or snow, you have to be flexible and be ready to adapt around it.

Our adventure began at the Portland waterfront, where the cherry blossoms greeted us on a soft, misty morning. After about an hour the sun burned through the fog and started to peek through trees.

To add a touch of romance to our session, Lisa and Minh packed a picnic filled with all their favorite treats—champagne, cake, and strawberries—nestled in the cutest picnic basket adorned with fresh flowers. It was a scene straight out of a movie, complete with laughter, love, and plenty of sweet indulgences.

After basking in the beauty of the cherry blossoms, we made our way to Good Coffee on SE Division for some cozy coffeeshop photos and indulgent matcha lattes. As Lisa and Minh cozied up by the corner counter, their love filled the air, creating an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy. With each sip of their lattes and every shared smile, it was so clear to me that they were meant to be together.

To capture the magic of this day, I shot a blend of digital, film, and polaroid photography. Each medium lending its own unique charm to the story we sought to tell. Digital, for its crisp detail and clarity. Film, for its timeless beauty and soft, dreamy quality. And polaroids, for those instant snapshots of love that will be cherished for a lifetime.
