Lauran and Jacob's Classic White Wedding at the Cape Horn Estate

Nestled in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, the breathtaking Cape Horn Estate set the stage for Lauran and Jake's enchanting wedding day. As a photographer based in Portland, Oregon, capturing love stories against such a majestic backdrop is a dream, and this day was no exception.

The seamless flow of the day was orchestrated by Brittney from Bells, Bows, and Vows, whose expertise turned the couple's vision into a splendid reality. The artistry of Sarah Dickerson Florals transformed the venue into a blooming paradise, with a stunning arch of white roses and baby’s breath that framed the ceremony in breathtaking beauty along with the venue’s hydrangeas.

The ambiance of the dinner over long tables was a vision of pure elegance, creating an intimate yet grand dinner party vibe. One of my favorite parts of weddings is actually the dinner — right when everyone is seated, clinking glasses, passing plates, and just enjoying each other’s company without rushing to the next event. It’s a gentle moment, but a powerful one.

A distinctive element of Lauran and Jake’s wedding was the choice to capture moments on 35mm film and Polaroids, adding a layer of timeless elegance to their day. Film photography, with its unique texture and warmth, brought out an organic quality in the images. The use of 35mm film captured the vibrancy and emotion of their celebration in a way that felt both vintage and endlessly timeless, while Polaroids offered playful, instant snapshots of joy, weaving a narrative of the day that was both intimate and profoundly touching.

The culinary highlight was the heart-shaped Lambeth style cake, an intricate masterpiece that was as much a feast for the eyes as it was for the palate. This cake, with its detailed piping and romantic shape, stood out as a highlight of 2023’s wedding trends for me. Its elegance and sophistication captured the essence of their classic white wedding, blending tradition with personal significance. The Lambeth cake wasn’t just a dessert; it was a centerpiece reflecting Lauran and Jake's love, a delightful detail that was a joy to photograph.

For those dreaming of a wedding that marries natural beauty with classic elegance, Lauran and Jake’s day at Cape Horn Estate shows what's possible when love and joy meet the perfect setting. Here's to more love, laughter, and happily ever afters!
