If you’re dreaming of an engagement session drenched in natural beauty and epic PNW vistas, look no further than Brittany and Casey’s dreamy summer shoot in the Columbia River Gorge. Traveling all the way from Texas, this adventurous couple wanted a breathtaking backdrop that felt completely different from their hometown. Enter Rowena Crest and Tom McCall Preserve: the perfect Pacific Northwest paradise.

The magic of Brittany and Casey’s engagement session began at Rowena Crest, a spot renowned for its sweeping views of the gorge and awe-inspiring panoramas looking across to the Washington side. As the golden hour bathed the landscape in a warm glow, we found ourselves in a picturesque wonderland. With rolling hills and lush golden valleys, Rowena Crest offered a scene straight out of a fairy tale.

I use a blend of digital, film, and Polaroid photos in all of my portrait sessions and wedding work. I love how film shots bring a timeless, dreamy quality to any session. The soft focus and grainy texture of film created a romantic, almost ethereal feel that complemented the natural beauty of the Gorge.

Polaroids added a delightful, vintage touch. These instant snapshots caught candid, joyful moments between the couple—those little snippets of laughter and love that are often missed in posed photos. The Polaroid prints were not just keepsakes but tangible pieces of their love story, each one a charming reminder of their adventure together.

As the sun started to set we set off across the street to the Tom McCall Preserve side, and followed the trail out as far is it went so that we could see the cliffs up close. It was a bit of a surprise hike, but totally worth it! Known for its wildflower-studded meadows and rocky overlooks, the preserve provided the perfect dramatic backdrop for the second part of their session.
